“Michel Dector’s entry into painting came with the choice of a medium, the bed sheet; a motif, the Arabic numeral 1; and a technique, spraying paint onto this motif, masked with adhesive so that it would later appear as a reserve. In other times, each of these decisions would have been put forward as a political-theoretical positioning. Today, we’re tempted to see it as a reminder of those times, but without nostalgia” (Patrick Javault). Remaining within this constraining system, he went on to develop other narratives, delivering his own version of different painting genres.
