Exhibition at La Centrale

Mathieu Wernert creates abstract paintings that are not solely composed of fully identifiable and clearly defined shapes, figures, outlines, lines, colors, or gestures. The pictorial vocabulary here is singularly composed of a set of reactions, alterations, eruptions, excavations, and cracks. Playing both on a skilful art of superimposition and a subtle sense of blending, the canvas appears as a kind of playground, a field of expression with materials and visual and emotional properties born of their provoked and unprecedented encounters.
